21 things I have learnt in 21 years

I have learnt a lot from my 21 years on this planet. If it’s not to do with friendships, it’s to do with relationships, and if not that it’s to do with my own relationship with myself. When I turned 21 in July it just hit me that I have actually been alive for 21 years. Thinking back to everything that I have experienced, some good and some bad it’s made me realise that I have learnt so much, and without all the mistakes and fuck ups along the way I wouldn’t be who I am today.

Do not reply to messages or emails when you are angry. I can guarantee that you will regret it.

We have all done it. Replied to that one email or message when you were seeing red and next thing you know you are totally regretting it. After this happening to me many times, I now try and take time out before I send anything. I find that going to the gym or even going for a walk can help me see clear again.

You cannot please everyone – no matter how hard you try.

Honestly ladies and gents, not everyone will be happy with everything you do. Sometimes you will upset people, and that is okay. I always think as long as you haven’t done something intentionally then you aren’t a bad person. Life would be boring if we all loved each other. (And weird, can you imagine everyone being nice).

Things always seem 100 times worse in the evening, go to sleep and everything with be easier in the morning.

This is something I live by now. I use to always get so worked up before I went to sleep, especially when I have had an argument with someone. The number of times I have argued with an ex boyfriend before going to bed and then sat up and worried all night about it for it to be fine. That’s why I now try and tell myself, that it will be fine. Worrying about something at that time won’t solve anything, so just go to sleep and in the morning it’s usually a lot better.

Nothing good will ever come from looking through someone else’s messages – just don’t do it.

I don’t really need to explain this one to you do I?

You will never regret doing exercise (FACT).

I don’t think I have ever finished a workout and thought about how I wish I had never done it. Exercise makes you feel goooooodd.

Having a food baby is perfectly normal, and something we all have.

Contrary to popular belief, people do actually get food babies and it’s not a big deal.

Trust your instinct – you usually know.

I don’t want to be one to judge, but sometimes you just have a feeling about something and it is usually right. Trust yourself.

Boys are mean but girls are meaner.

I’m pretty sure a girl has probably made me cry 100 times more than a boy – because girls are mean, especially when they are together.

Booking tables/appointments can always be nerve racking – but once it’s done it’s done.

You know when you go to ring up and book a hair appointment and you get a tiny bit worried? Yeah it’s usually fine – get stuff over and done with and it never seems as bad.

It is okay to be embarrassing on a night out – rumors are most people won’t even remember the next day.

We have all had that person that comes up to you the day after a good night out and tries to make you feel guilty. ‘You were so embarrassing last night’ – NO. Don’t listen to them, usually when you are drunk no-one will remember. Also, don’t hang around with people that say that shit to you. It’s rude and unnecessary.

If you have an issue with someone always address it in person – keyboard warriors can be nasty.

I really wish everyone would take to this rule. Should be a LIFE RULE. Do not message someone that you have a problem with and start beef. Just address it in person, it will always go better if you talk face to face.

There are two types of people that will obsess over you. Your mates and you enemies, – let them both obsess – any publicity is good publicity.

THIS. When you fall out with someone and they just always seem to keep an eye on you. Watching your Snapchat stories and giving your blog hits. I can see you babe – thanks for the publicity.

You don’t owe anything to anyone.

Like I said – do not people please your way through life.

Wear what the fuck you like.

You get what you pay for – unfortunately.

Haircuts, nail appointments, skin care, clothes… You get what you pay for. Invest your money in things that you don’t want to get wrong. The amount of times I have bought a cheap bag and it has broken in two seconds.

Instagram is fake – the sooner you realize that the happier you will be.

I use to sit on Instagram for hours and just gawp at all the beautiful girls on there. As empowering as they are it really use to get me down. Then I just started to realize that we are all guilty of just showing our good sides on Instagram. Don’t get yourself hung up on other peoples lives when you only see half the picture.

So many people will come and go.

People will float in and out of your life as they please. You will learn to judge situations and friendships. Some people will dip in and out and that is okay. I have recently met up with two of my old really good friends from school, and it was like we weren’t apart. Don’t take it personally. Equally, work out when someone isn’t bothered.

Relationships should not control your life – do not let the power of a boy/girl determine who you are and where you go in life.

Pretty simple isn’t it?

The thought of leaving something is always worse than actually leaving.

I remember sitting in my empty flat at uni crying that I was leaving. I was so upset to not see my friends and my boyfriend everyday. 6 months on, I still talk to my best friends everyday and we all still make a huge effort with each other. The thought of leaving something. whether it’s a job, university, your friends, always seems worse than it is.

An ex is an ex for a reason.

Do not go running back to an ex. They are an ex for a reason. I think so many people think that going back to them would be the best option for them.  It’s not. Do not do it.

There aint nothing that Chinese food and your friends can’t fix.

Like seriously? We all knew that one.

Let me know what you have learnt in the comments!
